This is my very first blog, and to be honest, my very first time openly sharing my story and expressing my feelings. Breaking down my walls like this, is a huge leap outside of my comfort zone. For the past twelve years I have lived my life in hiding. I have lived my life full of fear. I have lived my life from the outside. I have lived my life unequal to others. When I was sixteen years old, I came out to my family and friends that I was a lesbian, in hopes to attain acceptance and freedom. LOL. Let me just say that didn’t go as planned and actually resulted oppositely of my intentions. This is when it all started. Discrimination. One word and fourteen letters is all it takes to change a persons life. From the countless weird looks, ugly comments, and attempts to reconcile me from family and friends, I can say my life has never been the same. It has been a struggle to love myself, when it feels like no one else does.To accept who I am, when no one else can. Yes, I was depressed, and yes at times I thought my life would be better if I was no longer living at all. But because of that I realized that I am human, and I have just as equal a shot at life as any other. I realized that I had a dream to one day have a family of my own. And that is why I am creating my blog site. Discrimination doesn’t just stop at gender equality or gay marriage, it goes far beyond. My wife Laura and I got married three years ago, and for the past year we have been trying to adopt a child out of the foster care system. Key word: trying. The prejudice towards gay and lesbian couples that lie within the adoption process is disgusting and degrading. And it simply is just not okay. I hit a point where pretending to be okay is just hurting me, and eventually my chances of having a precious child to call my own. So this is where I am, I want to have a voice and make it known, I want to make a difference. For here on out, this is where I will be sharing all things about my wife’s and my journey adopting a child and fulfilling my dream to become a mother for a kid in need.
